Hola! (that's 1 of 5 Spanish words I know...)
The background: We are headed to a small, remote village in the Andes Mountains called Ayaviri along with 47 other people for a medical mission. For every one medical person, they need one non-medical person... that's where Jared & I come in. I'll explain more about this mission and why we are going later. Here is the link: http://medicalmissions.clmusa.org/ayaviri/index.html
I'm writing this blog for a few reasons:
1. We will have little internet availability in Ayaviri, so I'm going to be able to punch out a few emails to my kiddos, but I won't have time to send updates to everyone and I'd like to bring all of you with us.
2. For next year, I think it would be helpful for those newbies going on the mission to have a first hand account of what to expect. I googled a picture of our "hotel" in Ayaviri and it's a little discouraging. Plus, I'm asking everyone who has been on the mission before a hundred questions and I know I am becoming a *little* annoying.
3. I'm afraid I will forget everything I learned as soon as I get back home and sleep on my 600 thread count sheets.
4. I've always wanted a blog and this seems to be the perfect time to start one. And, if I really don't like writing it, I can stop as soon as the mission is over. Perfect, I know.
At this very moment, I am overwhelmed with a very long to-do list and a lot of anxiety. I called Jared at work a few days ago to tell him I did not want to go, and we should just pay everyone back their donations and bail. He let me go on for a while and make a really good case and then told me no. That's a good husband.
I'm going to get back to my list... and I'll be in touch soon.
<3,
Annie
By the way, this is the picture of the hotel in Ayaviri that I found in google. I am assuming those are guest towels drying. I used this picture in my evidence of my case not to go... Instead, towels added to the "Don't forget to pack..." list.
